The Jobspotting team already had a serious case of high expectations when we arrived in Helsinki for Slush. Back in Berlin, we had collaborated with the Slush team to throw an after-party for Tech Open Air during the summer. So we had seen these guys in action before, pulling out all the stops.
For those of you who have never heard of Jobspotting, it’s a recommendations engine that matches job seekers to suitable jobs. Just after Slush, we released our newest feature – Company Pages for employers with an analytics dashboard, that helps them to find and target the best candidates for their job vacancies.
We were in a uniquely lucky position as we got to experience Slush from lots of different viewpoints. Co-Founder and CEO Hessam took Jobspotting to the Pitch Stage, and was on a panel moderated by Mike Butcher (of TechCrunch fame) about how startups can help refugees.
Robin (Co-Founder and COO) presented on the Green Stage about The Future of Recruitment and Veronica, Robert and Carrie spent two days at the Jobspotting booth – D22 forever! – explaining what we do to interested Slush attendees. Of course, it wouldn’t be Jobspotting X Slush without a party so on Wednesday night, we threw a really fun pre-party party with Lakestar and IEG, that went on long into the night.
Despite the enormous capacity of Slush (15,000 attendees), it somehow managed to feel friendly and personal, giving us a great opportunity to showcase Jobspotting while meeting lots of interesting and interested people. Afterwards, Robin noted the “brotherhood mentality” of people in the Nordics, and again and again we were blown away by the warmth, kindness and helpfulness of everyone we met there.
Overall, it was a hugely valuable experience for us as a company. Everything ran so smoothly and was so well-organised that we were really able to make the most of it. From the booth, to our founders’ meetings, to the connections we made, to the VIP treatment we received – it truly is the best-organised event in tech.
The folks at Slush thought of every tiny detail and thanks are due to the whole team, but especially to Niki, Riku, Jenny, Rudi, Atte and Petri. We’d also like to give a major shout-out to our magnificent concierge Noora, who masterminded our entire trip. We would have been lost without her, both literally and figuratively.
We left Helsinki exhilarated after two incredible days of ideas, people and parties that left our minds buzzing. For startups thinking about going next year, there should be no question in your mind about the value of the trip!
See you next year, Slush!
